Holding Heaven: A Novella
By Jerry Jenkins

Getting Ready...
   - Pregnancy has been an amazing experience. I am loving this final month, despite all of the typical 9th month discomforts.
   - I'm super excited that this little guy made it full term. My family tends to deliver babies REALLY early, so meeting my 9 month goal makes the physical aches/pains totally worth it. As I type, he has hiccups. Again. A jolt right into my rib cage each time.
   - Only 10 more days 'til my due date...but of course, he could still wait a couple more weeks. We'll see!
   - Reading "Holding Heaven" was amazing. What a meditation on Christ's human presence! (I wonder who sent this to me...it was an anonymous gift at Christmas that simply appeared in my PO box, directly from a Christian bookstore w/o any info to track down the giver. Hmmmmm...)
   - Car seat is secured.
   - Hospital bag is packed.
   - Support people all in place.
   - Home is ready
   - I'm as ready as I know how to be...

...for all the unknowns ahead.

I pray I can remain in the moment & enjoy each phase and not "wish away" the tough moments in a way that makes me miss out on the joy & beauty & miracle of this little guy's life. This whole pregnancy has been such a miracle -- I feel like it's a giant gift, tagged, "To Wendy, Love Jesus."

Geesh! Nearly two months since I've blogged. Seems like pregnancy makes everything take longer, and I'm having a miserable time trying to keep up with the basics.

Got moved. Love my new place. Delight in seeing the mtns every day. Really enjoy having a quiet place to work, read, etc. Things are ready for the baby -- can't wait to meet him -- only 12 days now 'til the due date. (First baby, though, so maybe another month!)

Wondering why Facebook has such an appeal. I suppose it's nice for ppl who hate to write, can't stand reading, or don't stay engaged in conversations. Maybe a one liner is about all people can handle for connecting anymore. Sad. I find the Facebook wall comments annoying b/c they don't really say anything OR they make me want to talk w/the person...

I really wish I had time to hang out with all the cool and amazing people I know. I'm seriously spoiled with quality people. Makes me long for heaven when time won't be an issue, and we can totally hang out, fellowship, celebrate God, work, sing, whatever...and not be bound by time. Ahhhh! Sounds great!

Quotes for the new year

“Life is to no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
   -- George Bernard Shaw

“Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon...must inevitably come to pass!”       -- Paul J. Meyer

“There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands”

Richard Bach

“People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.”

Looking for someone Type O

Okay, everybody...
We've all experienced difficulty in life..financial woes, medical issues, and a variety of life's challenges. But this one is a life & death matter. I'm not being dramatic...just real. I'm sending out this request to everybody I can think of because either ONE OF US is the right person or else SOMEONE WE KNOW is the right person. Looking for someone Type O!

Tanela Durbin (Mark & Karen's daughter) needs a kidney transplant. They thought they had a match, but it didn't work out. This is a TEENAGER...with so very much life & vitality left to enjoy...We've got to help her!

Medical info is below, from Karen. But for those who don't know Tanela, here's a quick introduction:
Fun loving
Conquers challenges
Cheerleader at her school
Loves to sing
Crazy about country music
Participates in school plays
Worships & serves at her church
Encourages other kids at heart camp
has come through a zillion medical challenges
Could probably pass a nursing test by now, just from her own experiences!
Insanely contagious smile
Silliest laugh of anybody I know
Gives the best hugs
Always thinking of others -- even this week, when I got to chat with Karen, she "had" to relay a message from Tanela -- "T wants to know how you and the baby are doing."

Please help!!!! My heart aches at the thought of what this young girl is going through. Let's surround her with our prayers & good thoughts & happy wishes...but more importantly...with someone Type O who can donate a kidney!

TANELA needs to have a KIDNEY TRANSPLANT...

We need a LIVING DONOR

BLOOD TYPE O – negative or positive is irrelevant…

No history of cancer…

No history of diabetes…

Good health & willing to donate one of your kidneys to TANELA

CONTACT ANGELA @ 412-647-5489, kidney donor coordinator

Thank you for considering this GIFT OF LIFE

Karen ~ Durbette

Wife to Mark & Mom of Tanela, 18, NS, Double Lung Transplant due to PPH on 10-12-00, vWD, ASD repair 04-02-92, now in kidney failure...

Tanela: Pls. keep praying

So...they don't know if her live donor is a good match for her. They're running more tests & won't know for several days. For now, T is on a continuous, cycling dialysis. Had to have her catheter redone today, deeper & more securely placed b/c it somehow had internal leakage, so it wasn't in an ideal place for her body. She'll be on 02 continuously at least until after the transplant, and then they'll have to re-evaluate. BP continues to skyrocket intermittently.

I shouldn't be so selfish...we've had her for years longer than her anticipated lifespan. But I ache at the thought of losing her.
